New CT Scanner Operational at SBGHC Walkerton
June 21, 2018 @ 8:34AM
Renovations to the CT suite at South Bruce Grey Health Centre’s Walkerton site are complete and the new SIEMENS Somatom Drive 256-slice scanner is now operational.
The new CT scanner features significantly advanced diagnostic capabilities and improved image quality, reduced radiation exposure for patients, and is only the second deployment of this advanced technology in Canada. The CT suite in Walkerton will be used by SIEMENS Canada as a national show site for promoting this technology to other health care organizations.
The scanner is a replacement of the 64-slice CT that was installed in June 2005. The CT program at South Bruce Grey Health Centre’s Walkerton site serves a diverse patient population in Southern Grey and Bruce Counties for emergency/trauma scans, cancer diagnosis and follow-up, and more. South Bruce Grey Health Centre was the first rural hospital corporation in the province to acquire a CT license and technology thanks to community support.
Renovations to the suite began in March 2018 with CT service delivery continuing in a mobile CT trailer throughout the duration. The project was completed one week ahead of schedule, with service resuming in the CT suite on June 18.
“The success of this project has truly been a team effort,” says Paul Rosebush, SBGHC President and CEO. “All of our departments touched this project to make it a success, our Foundations, and also our Patient and Family Advisors. The experience of our patients during the transitional period in the mobile trailer and in the new suite was a key focus.”
Fundraising efforts continue for the $2M project, which has been made possible through the Walkerton & District Hospital Foundation’s $1.2 M Come Together campaign, and the Chesley, Durham and Kincardine Hospital Foundations who have also pledged generous support.
